I spent the morning volunteering with my fellow coworkers at NYCACC (New York Animal Care & Control) walking dogs and socializing cats, so wanted to spread the news about this wonderful organization. It is a non-profit animal shelter that tries to take care and place numerous abandoned animals into loving homes. It was an eye opening experience realizing that these dogs & cats are there for countless reasons...some unthinkable, some by chance, some petty. The truth of the matter is, many of these animals are too injured, sick, traumatized or aggressive to be adopted so they're euthanized. Unfortunately, adoptable dogs that don't get placed after a certain amount of time due to space constraints can be euthanized as well. The statistics are unbelievable and saddening. With your help and support, whether it's making a donation, volunteering (they have facilities in each borough), or even adopting one of these lovely animals, NYCACC can hopefully reach its goal of becoming a no-kill shelter.
With that said, I want to plead for my new puppy love, Kenny, who I spent a lot of time with at the shelter. He is a beautiful pit bull mix, about a year old. He's sweet, loving & affectionate, mild mannered with good temperament...no obvious traumas or health issues. I would adopt him in a heartbeat if I didn't have Nina & Roo already. He was brought to the shelter on Oct. 19th, so not sure how long he will be there. If anyone is interested or know anyone that might be, I beg you to contact the NYCACC in Manhattan where he is staying.
There are many dogs like Kenny that desperately need saving, so please find it in your hearts to make a contribution. Also, take a peek at my sidebar for updated postings of adoptable dogs.

What a nice post. I hope someone adopts Kenny (along with many of the other abandoned pets). If I was not in Vermont and did not have debilitating allergies to most dogs, cats, grass, etc...I would. I will be starting to walk dogs once a week with my sister at the Northern Greyhound Rescue in Vermont next week (on a nice dose of Benadryl). It is a tragedy how many pets there are that are in need of good families out there......
well done for a great post. Kenny has a heart of gold and a face to match, I hope he will be adopted soon. and I hope one day people will learn to value their pets like members of their family. we may get fed up with them sometimes but we don't just give them away. their is a commitment there. to work through any problems. the same applies to animals
Awwww he is such a cutie! What a pretty coat and an adorable face. If my place were fit for a pup I would totally take him, but unfortunately I can't :(
Hopefully somebody give him a good home
Oh, I want a doggie!!! Unfortunately, Thurston won't let me adopt a dog (or any other pets), he doesn't get along with other animals aside from his brother. I think it's because he wants all my attention for himself.
